METALLICA HETFIELD HONORED BY MAP
Metallica’s James Hetfield was the honoree at the second annual MAP Benefit Fund concert over the weekend at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the concert went to benefit MusiCares MAP fund, which is short for Musicians Assistance Program. The organization provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation. |
James Hetfield who relied on the organization during his recovery, talked about receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award from MAP, which is given to one who shows dedication and support for the fund and a devotion to helping other addicts in the recovery process. |
“Well a little unworthy at first, but that’s kind of my character at times, but then I felt a lot of love around it. As the night goes on there’s a lot more… As the night goes on it’ll be very emotional tonight. I will be very difficult at times, but accepting that part of me.” |
Red Hot Chili Peppers vocalist Anthony Kiedis said he’s there to support Hetfield. |
“Take care of your friends because one day down the line they may have to take care of you. So I’ll take care of him because someday I may need him to take care of me. It’s beautiful. It’s beautiful. It’s nice coming out the other side. It’s a real drag when you get stuck inside that tunnel. It’s a good feeling coming out.” |
Coming out for the concert and also to show support were Kiedis, members of Alice In Chains, Ozzy Osbourne and Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver. |
