METALLICA DRUMMER IS SOME KIND OF HERO TO SYSTEM OF A DOWN
System Of A Down set a Billboard 200 record for having two albums debut in the Number One slot in a single year, and bassist Shavo Odadhian admitted that they didn’t plan for it. Hypnotize and Mesmerize both debuted at Number One about six months apart. |
Odadjian revealed to us that the first congratulatory call he got for the record setting feat was from none other than Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. |
“We didn’t plan on doing that. That wasn’t like, our goal is to have two number one albums. Our goal was just to release a double album in two separate parts, you know what I mean? That the fact that they both went Number One in the same year is just, f–k. It’s cool, but we didn’t plan on that. We didn’t think about that until it happened. The first person that called to congratulate me though was Lars from Metallica. Oh yeah, we’re friends. But for anyone in the world to call and congratulate me, for him to do it meant the world to me. He’s my hero.” |
System Of A Down is set to tour on OzzFest this year, and Metallica will also do some dates this summer. Rumors are still swirling that Lars and company will join the OzzFest line-up, but there’s no confirmation of that at press time. |
System Of A Down’s “Souls” concert has been cancelled for this year, and when asked why Shavo remained tight-lipped. |
