MEET THE NEW SUPERMAN
New Superman Brandon Routh was plucked out of virtual obscurity. Once a model to support his acting career he is no longer walking the runway but taking off to fly through the air and leap tall buildings within a single bound as the man of steel in Superman Returns. Brandon knew that when he took the job he’d have some mighty big boots to fill. |
Playing Superman gave Brandon the inner confidence to show every nook and cranny of his body in the snug fitting red tights. He remembers the satisfaction he had showing the suit off to the crew on the first day of filming. |
“Well I think there are a few elements that make Superman so popular. Being heroes, we all love heroes. We love to be inspired by people and by things and Superman stands for everything that’s great in humanity I think. All the things that we can aspire to as humans to become more like him.” |
After Christopher Reeve’s tragic horseback riding accident, little hope was left for a Superman successor but Routh is perfect casting. He even received a letter of encouragement from Reeve’s wife Dana before he began shooting the film. Superman flies into theaters June 28. rn |
“The first time was camera ready and I was camera ready that I put the suit on was pretty awesome. The first day that we unveiled the suit for the crew and shot the first scene with Superman was pretty exciting for me. It was the end of months of work physically and training to get ready for the film and also fittings and working with the costume department for all the final touches of the suit. And it was very satisfying to let everyone see all the work that we’d done and to kick off filming Superman’s part of the film. It was very neat.” |
