It’s been two years since Matthew Perry played the wise cracking office drone Chandler Bing on Friends and now he’s returning to television once again with a more responsible career as the executive producer and head writer on Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip. Matt talks about how the series drew him back to television. |
Matthew plays Matt Albie partners with Danny played by West Wing’s Brad Whitford who return to executive produce the series after being fired seven years ago when their predecessor has a nervous breakdown live on the air. Matthew will also take the reins as head writer of the series’ late night comedy sketch show, a job that he says appeals to him personally. |
“It’s a drama but it takes place in a very funny world. It kind of had all the elements I was looking for if I was going to come back and do TV. And now here I am. Of course it’s a challenge from the last show I did to change it up a little bit. I think this is different enough and similar enough.” |
When you’re putting on a live show anything can happen which Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip has in store for viewers premiering tonight at 10PM on NBC. |
“It’s certainly a world that interests me. I was always kind of a frustrated writer on the set of Friends. It’ll be interesting to look at through the perspective as the writers as opposed to the star of the show or one of the stars of the show. All the politics of running a live show and the politics of running a network are both explored here and both of those things are pretty interesting to me.” |
