Match Point star Matthew Goode wants to change his last name to Bad to fit the villainous, skeevy bank robbing character he’s playing in The Look-Out. |
Playing a proper British gent in the Woody Allen film, Goode says he had to convince first time director Scott Frank that he could be menacing. |
“Matthew Bad, yeah is a bit more in keeping with the character I suppose. But I mean when I was at University it was a cheap way to keep your hair. I used to love it having it short. That’s one thing I did for the audition. As always I didn’t have a job to go into and it was hot and I thought, ‘If I walked in like this and went, ‘Hi Scott it’s very nice to meet you,’ he might be like, ‘Whoa no way I’m casting this English dude.’ So I shaved all my hair off right down to the skin so at least he could have some sort of semblance of an idea of what I am, that I might suit the character.” |
In the film Matthew’s bad guy enlists a brain injured bank night janitor played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt to get him and his gang inside the vault. Being short on cash from time to time, Goode admitted to his own bank robbing fantasy where he would charm the American teller with his English accent to get away with the dough. |
“I’d probably have a banana in my jacket so I could just laugh it off if I got arrested and say, ‘I was just a bit drunk officer, I’m so sorry,’ and hope the English thing worked. Over here yeah whereas I think in England they’d be like, ‘Listen you tosser you’re not taking the money.'” |
Matthew should have no financial worries as he’s already lined up his next project, a remake of the British television series Brideshead Revisited taking on the role of Englishman Charles Ryder that Jeremy Irons created. |
