Matt Dillon stars in You, Me & Dupree as the newly married Carl struggling with the stress of a new job, a new marriage and his best friend Dupree who wreaks havoc when he moves in with him and the Mrs. Matt talks about the dynamic of their friendship even though he’s not amused by Dupree’s antics. |
Matt explains why they’re still the best of friends even though Dupree has cost Carl his job, and possibly his marriage. |
“Carl loves him and he likes his personality but he’s not amused by him. It’s sort of a bond that’s much deeper than that. He has to put up with him despite of his shortcomings because they’re such good friends, and he likes him. But he’s not amused by him the same way the audience is amused by him and I think the comedy is from the fact that they are arguing about stupid things. About thank-you notes, about the plumbing in the house when he goes out. He doesn’t find it amusing because he’s in the middle of it.” |
You, Me & Dupree opens today in theaters nationwide.rn |
“Because it’s Dupree and because of the way Owen’s playing him and playing him very convincingly he’s kind of a naïve innocent. He’s very forgivable and kind of lovable in spite of these shortcomings. His personality is sort of in arrested development. I mean Carl has to go through a lot in this and yet he loves Dupree, at the same time he wants to kill him.” |
