Matt Costa has re released his debut album ‘Songs We Sing’ on Brushfire Records. The new release is remastered, partially re-mixed and features a new track listing as well. By rereleasing the album under the Brushfire Records family, Matt Costa utilizes an amazing distribution avenue and enables him to get the album out on a worldwide level. We caught up with Matt Costa recently to talk about re releasing ‘Songs We Sing’ with Jack Johnson’s label, Brushfire Records. |
As it turns out, Jack Johnson was so impressed with Matt’s songwriting and singing ability he invited him to write a song for one of the top grossing albums of the year, Jack Johnson’s soundtrack to the movie ‘Curious George.’ In fact, Matt had no idea the album would be such a smashing success, he was just happy to be lending a song for a childrens album. |
“Well, he invited us on last summers tour, his national tour and we became friends and he liked the record and was a fan of it and told us that. And he wanted to release the record through Brushfire. So we said of course we’d like to do it. So from there we became part of the Brushfire family and now the records been distributed by Brushfire and it has a much larger distribution than we ever had. You know we just had like small record stores and internet stuff.” |
Matt Costa’s ‘Songs We Sing’ was produced by fellow Orange County Californian, Tom Dumont of No Doubt and is currently available. Recently, Matt Costa had a much talked about set at one of the career launching festivals around the world, Bonnaroo, where Matt kicked off the festival on Thursday Evening in front of thousands of hungry music fans. |
“I didn’t know that it was going to be such a big thing. When he (Jack Johnson) mentioned it I was ‘Oh yes, it’s going to be for kids. I was excited just to have a song be a part of a kids record, because I thought so many kids are going to hear that, like the songs I heard as a kid have stuck with me forever. You know those songs always made me feel good and remind me of my childhood and things. So to be a part of kids lives like that at a young age and bring music to them, I couldn’t pass up that opportunity. So for it to do so well was just icing on the cake.” |
