Mastodon’s new album, Blood Mountain, hits stores on Tuesday, and the band just wrapped up dates with Slayer. The band’s first track from the album is The Wolf Is Loose. The album follows in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Leviathan.

The band talked with us about the album, and not fitting into the current musical landscape and trends.

“We were just… We were in the studio for a long time so, but it was actually an easy record to make. The music was hard to play, but it was fun to do. It wasn’t too hard. We changed music. Music changes because we changed it — we helped change it with friends of ours. It’s not really a glamorous… We hope to not get it too glamorous. Music has never been about glamour.”

Mastodon is currently on a headline tour with Converge and The Bronx, and they’ll be on the road through October 7, where the tour will wind down in Atlanta.
