MASTODON GETS HELP FROM SPRINGSTEEN
Progressive sludge-metal band Mastodon got a big break production-wise for their next album courtesy of The Boss. |
Mastodon brings their brand of progressive sludge metal to the Mayhem festival, and the band committed to the trek even though their follow-up to Blood Mountain is still being recorded. For the new effort the band hooked up with Prog-rock fan and legendary Pearl Jam producer Brendan O’Brien. |
Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor talked about how The Boss hooked them up. |
“Yeah, that came together really interestingly through Bruce Springsteen. Max Weinberg’s son is a fan of the band, and every time we come to New Jersey or New York they come out and see the show and come hang out. So, we’ve known them for a few years now. We got tickets for Bruce through them, and went down and met him and ended up meeting Brendan O’Brien there briefly, and he was like, ‘Send me some demos,’ and then a couple of days later it felt like, boom we’re in the studio. We’re tracking the record. I was like, ‘Wow. Cool.'” |
Mastodon’s still untitled album is aiming for an early 2009 release. |
