MASTER P PLANS TO SUE SONY MUSIC
Hip hop mogul Master P has announced plans to sue Sony Music for $500 million. He’s accusing executives at Sony Music of using their power to get radio stations not to play Lil’ Romeo’s “U Can’t Shine Like Me,” which is a response record to Bow Wow’s “Fresh Azimiz.” Master P said, “How can Sony Music executives call radio stations and tell them not to play the Romeo record ‘U Can’t Shine Like Me?’ Los Angeles was the first city to play it. Usually, if you get played in Hollywood, the world will follow. Every station that played the Bow Wow song should have at least tested the record once or twice or played it on their ‘Hit Or Dis’ show by now.” |
P added, “I had a distribution deal on the table with Jive Records that fell through the crack — hint. Sony BMG. I wonder why. Jive is a Sony BMG label. Sony BMG is the parent label for Bow Wow’s label, Columbia Records.” |
“The game done changed because now it’s more corporate. It’s definitely a… The radio stations are definitely combining now when you look at Clear Channel and Radio One and stuff like that. Also video, video is definitely branding where they’re being incorporated by Viacom buying MTV, and BET, so it’s definitely a bigger channel. There’s no more Box TV. It;s hard for independents to come up now.” |
Although there’s been an ongoing beef between Lil Romeo and Bow Wow, Master P denies it. He said, “There is no beef with us and Bow. We got love for the little dude. He just doesn’t know when to shut his mouth. His arrogance and cockiness are turning fans and their parents off.” |
In the past Master P shared how the corporate takeover of hip hop was making it harder for independents like him. He said, |
