MARY J BLIGE SEES 3 GRAMMYS, SAYS THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
Mary J. Blige was tied for the most awards with 3 at the Grammys this year, but she says that her next album will be even bigger. |
Mary J. Blige took eight Grammy nominations and turned them into three awards at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, which aired on CBS-TV. She was second only to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 4 and the Dixie Chicks 5 in one of the most balanced award shows ever. This follows in the footsteps of her huge Billboard Awards showing where she took home nine trophies. |
One of the big awards of the night for her was her trip to the podium for Best R&B album. Black Eyed Peas announced Blige as the winner, and a teary eyed Blige accepted the award. |
“Um, I just have to thank my father god, lord and savior Jesus Christ. That’s right. This is the first time I’ve ever been up here to receive anything, and I thank you so much. I just want to thank god for this album and this award for this album. It’s not only shown that I’m a musician, an artist and a writer, but it’s also showing that I’m growing into a better human being. Tonight we celebrate the better human being becuase for so many years because I have been talked about negatively, but this time I have been talked about positively by so many people.” |
Despite her showing at the Grammy Awards, she says that she’s got plans to make 2007 even better than the past year. |
“Well, 2007 I can’t say that I’ve done it all because I believe this is the beginning of so much more on another level that I have yet to tap into or have yet to experience, so. I’m looking forward to 2007 and so many new things.” |
Mary J. Blige won Grammys for Best R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song for “Be Without You.” This is added to her all-time total of three. She won trophies in 1995, 2002 and 2003. |
