Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige has enjoyed a long fruitful career but she only seems to be getting better as her latest album, The Breakthrough, eclipsed all of her previous first week sales marks. The set sold over 720,000 copies its first week in stores to land at Number One and it has already been certified platinum in less than a month.

Blige recently explained why she decided to titled the album, The Breakthrough. The singer said,

“I titled it The Breakthrough, the album, because there’s a lot of things you know that I had to breakthrough in my life. When I said, ‘No more drama,’ that was something I said in order to understand where the drama was coming from. So when I understood the drama was coming from me and I was the problem I began to find out what the problems were mentally,spiritually physically, intellectually, vocally, they’re a lot of problems so I began to try to fix the problems. They’re not all fixed but I see the progress that I’ve made. So that’s why I called it The Breakthrough ’cause I can actually see the progress that I made.”

Blige’s latest single is “Be Without You.”
