A reunited Police opened the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, February 11th, which featured spirited performances by the Dixie Chicks, Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce who performed her smash “Listen,” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack. The show also included performances by Corrine Bailey Rae, John Legend, John Mayer, Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Rascal Flaats, Smokie Robinson, Chris Brown, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lionel Richie, Christina Aguilera, Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, Earth, Wind & Fire, and T.I. |
The evening’s big multiple award winners were the Dixie Chicks, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mary J. Blige, and Justin Timberlake. Blige, the leading nonimee going into the night, took home three awards including best R&B song and best female R&B performance for “Be Without You,” and best R&B album for The Breakthough. Blige was beat out by the Dixie Chicks in the big three categories, record of the year, album of the year, and song of the year, Prior to the show producer Brian Michael Cox who was nominated with Blige for his work on her latest album shared that he hopes they atleast win a televised award.
