MARTIN SHEEN SAYS YES TO SCORCESE
(VIDEO) Martin Sheen accepted the role in The Departed without even reading the script for an opportunity to work with Scorcese. |
Martin Sheen stars as Oliver Queenan, the chief of the Boston police undercover unit in The Departed who hires Leonardo DiCaprio’s character to infiltrate the Irish mob led by Jack Nicholson’s Frank Costello. Sight unseen Sheen says he wanted to do the role simply because of the film’s famous director. |
Martin talks about why at some point every actor wants a shot at being in a Martin Scorcese film. |
“I took the part before I read the script. I was told what the part was about and I was told that I had to make up my mind immediately that there was no time to read it. There were only two words that made me say yes almost instantly and that was Marty Scorcese. That was the main reason and with that in mind I said how can I possibly make a mistake. I said yes.” |
Martin is leaving the heavy subject matter to work on an animated project next entitled Flatland: The Movie about geometric characters where he will be the voice of Arthur Square.rn |
“Marty loves actors and he works through actors. He tells his story with actors and a lot of directors are not able to do that. They don’t always trust the actor. They don’t trust the instrument. And Marty is content to trust the instrument wherever it’s going. He’s always making suggestions and encouraging the continuation of direction. And a freedom, he offers so much freedom.” |
