MAROON 5 HELPS TRIBUTE SLY, WINS POP PERFORMANCE GRAMMY
Maroon 5 won their second Grammy Award in as many years, taking the trophy for “This Love” from “Live – Friday the 13th.” The band also joined with Randy Jackson, Ciara, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry for a rendition of the Sly And The Family Stone classic, “Everyday People,” at rehearsals for the tribute to Sly for the Grammy Awards on Wednesday, February 8. |
Vocalist Adam Levine talked about why they’re involved in the Sly and The Family Stone tribute at the Grammys. |
“I wanted to be part of it somehow. The Sly Stone thing just kind of fell into our lap. We thought, ‘Hey, he’s one of our favorite artists of all time. He’s one of the greatest people in the world so how flattering is it to be considered to perform his music in front of him.” |
Levine added that Sly And The Family Stone were a necessary part of his informal music education, being exposed to the band via his parents. |
“I mean, I was kind of raised on it. Everyone, my parents like to school me on the classics, and Sly was one of those people. I’ve known his music forever, and I’ve actually gotten into his music more studying up for this performance.” |
The band recieved their second Grammy Award in as many years, winning Best New Artist at last year’s awards, to Kanye West’s chagrin. Adam Levine later collaborated for a track on West’s Late Registration album. |
