The Nominees for the 38th Annual Grammy Awards were announced in New York City on Thursday (December 8), and Mariah Carey, John Legend, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, and Natasha Beddingfield were among the stars tapped to read the nominations. Carey came away with eight nominations tied with John Legend and Kanye West.

Mariah Carey read the nominees for Best New Artist, which included Ciara, Keane and John Legend.

We grabbed John Legend after he read the nominations and asked him about being nominated for eight awards.

Other top nominees included Gorillaz, Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani and U2. The awards take place February 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
