MARIA MENOUNOS SCHOOLED ON THE EIGHTIES
It was as if Kickin’ It Old Skool star Maria Menounos had to go to eighties school when she was cast as Jamie Kennedy’s school flame as she was still a baby when the cabbage patch doll and parachute pants were all the rage. |
Maria says she became more of a fan for eighties music and fashion after making the movie. |
“I think I’m more an 80s girl now than I was before because I was born in ’78 and my parents are Greek immigrants and they didn’t speak English which means I didn’t speak English for most of the 80s either. So I feel like I’m living it more now. That’s what I loved about the script because the music is my favorite music of all time. I love heavy metal, all kinds of Beatles music and Madonna. All my fashion right now is very 80s.” |
Maria also has a video memory of her time on the boys club set. |
“They just tortured me in so many different ways just guys harassing the girl kind of stuff. I had my video camera on the whole time so I got a lot of stuff on camera. I remember interviewing Miguel and we were just talking and I was asking him questions to use the footage later and Bobby Lee goes ‘Ria come here,’ so I swoosh the camera over and he’s naked. I’m like, ‘Bobby Lee my mom is supposed to look at this!’ Now she’s gonna see or not see something. They were funny. They were constantly making me laugh. It was just a month of laughter.” |
Kickin It Old Skool opens Friday in theaters. |
