MARIA BELLO ADMIRES PORT AUTHORITY COP’S WIFE
Like so many Americans actress Maria Bello was there the day the World Trade Center was attacked and even had several fire fighter friends at the sight who thankfully survived. Feeling personally attached to the subject matter, Maria agreed to play Donna McLoughlin in World Trade Center, the wife of Port Authority Sergeant John McLoughlin who becomes trapped beneath the rubble of the fallen buildings. Being the wife of a cop you learn to live with the threat of danger and Maria admired Donna’s strength as well as her softness which she had to find within herself. |
Maria had conversations with Donna McLoughlin while preparing to portray her and found her incredible resolve to keep it together for her family while news of her husband was so uncertain.rn |
“There’s such a joy in her and such a lightness and such a goodness. She’s just a soft kind woman. I had to really dig to bring that part of myself to the forefront. My mother has it, Donna has it in spades. I suppose that was the biggest thing, her softness, her soft strength. She’s incredibly determined to the wife of a police officer so she’s not sappy by any means. She bikes like 30 miles a day and takes care of these four kids and seems to have everything under control. And yet she’s soft within that. I really admire that.” |
