MANDY MOORE ATTRACTED TO COLORFUL CHARACTERS
Mandy Moore says she enjoys meeting people who have quirky personalities but wouldn’t necessarily date them. |
In Dedication Mandy Moore’s illustrator teams up with Billy Crudup’s children’s writer to collaborate on the ongoing adventures of Marty, the beaver. Soon enough Mandy finds Billy is a child himself dealing with idiosyncrasies like putting heavy books on his chest to quell his anxieties. |
Mandy says in life she’s attracted to quirky people because it makes life more colorful. |
“I haven’t necessarily experienced the insanity that is Billy’s character in the film. I mean he’s quirky to a degree that I’ve never met before but I wouldn’t be opposed to it. I actually quite like coming across those people even if it’s just observing them in real life. It’s what makes life colorful. If anything I think it’s about just not ignoring the crazy connections you may have with someone. Just sort of stepping up to the plate and going for it. It’s life.” |
Getting along with crazy characters may come easy for Mandy but drawing them doesn’t. |
“I took a one day sort of tutorial kind of course. I snuck into Parson’s and went into the illustrator department and watched them sketch. A lot of the students showed me some of their work. But I’m really shy and I’m a terrible artist actually. That side of my brain is not developed whatsoever so I tried to partake a little bit in the class but I ended up being terrible. So in the actual scenes where I’m supposed to be sketching, I’m literally just sketching over a sketch that’s already on the paper. I can sign an autograph OK; it’s just the drawing I’m terrible at.” |
Dedication opens Friday, August 24th in theaters. |
