MAJOR LEAGUE LANDS HOME RUN ON DVD
Major League Wild Thing edition is coming out on DVD. |
Major League kicks off the baseball season with the Wild Thing edition DVD featuring a team of misfits owned by a former exotic dancer who hires the worst players she can find so she can move the Cleveland Indians to the warmer climate of Miami. |
The cast of players from the 1989 film Charlie Sheen as pitcher Ruck Wild Thing Vaughn, Tom Berenger as catcher Jake Taylor and Corbin Bernsen as third baseman Roger Dorn say they were in a league of their own. |
“I said I have to be in this film. I think it was one of very few that really captured the essence of life in the big leagues. Through reflection it’s a good baseball story I remember for people that don’t like baseball or know anything about it. People love this movie and say it’s the most honest kind of clubhouse feeling of a baseball movie that I’ve ever seen.” |
Charlie Sheen says he was amazed that professional pitchers were modeling their plays after his Wild Thing character, and then unknown Dennis Haysbert the voodoo practicing outfielder Pedro Cerrano couldn’t believe he was hitting them out of the ballpark. |
“It was really flattering to see major leaguers change their uniform numbers to 99, to play Wild Thing when they come out of the bullpen, to adopt this whole Wild Thing demeanor that was in a film. I mean that was the ultimate compliment. That was exhilarating. I hit a couple of them. Every home run I was supposed to hit out, I hit out and Steve Yeager will say it was cool but he didn’t like it because he was pitching.” |
Extras include a tour of Cerrano’s locker, and a featurette from former pro player and beer commercial spokesman Bob Uecker who played announcer Harry Doyle in the film. Major League Wild Thing edition DVD steps up to the plate April 10. |
