MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL LIVED THROUGH PAIN OF SHERRYBABY

(VIDEO) Sherrybaby star Maggie Gyllenhaal was emotionally exhausted by the heavy subject matter after filming.

Playing a heroin addict who is just released from prison on probation and trying to reconnect with her daughter was so emotionally exhausting for Sherrybaby star Maggie Gyllenhaal that she didn’t fully recover until a month after the film wrapped.

Despite the personal torment of her character Maggie is hopeful that the story will come through with a positive message.

“I mean look I was exhausted when we were shooting and it was really, really hard. I was also exhilarated because it was pretty amazing to be doing this movie. But it was after we finished shooting that I felt all that pain. I mean it’s all there even if Sherry and me as Sherry are both trying to survive and find what’s good, all that pain is so obviously there. It came afterward. I would say it took me probably over a month to really feel better.”rn

This has been a whirlwind year personally and professionally for mother-to-be Maggie Gyllenhaal who will be taking a well-deserved break from movies until she sorts out her life as a new mother. rn

“I think it’s sort of like a gentle challenge to the audience to say can you spend two hours with someone who is so flawed, who is in such a tough place who makes so many decisions that are confused and can you be compassionate enough to still love her. I think that’s kind of a great thing to ask of an audience.”
