MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL FALLS FOR THE TAX MAN

In Stranger Than Fiction Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a free-spirited baker who would rather not pay taxes that go against her moral values.

When IRS auditor Harold Crick played by Will Ferrell pays a visit to Maggie’s character to catch her withholding sparks don’t necessarily fly at first between them.

“She doesn’t pay the taxes that would go to support the things that she doesn’t believe in. And she does it expecting for there to be a response and she’s curious about what the response is, then waits to see and goes with it. I think she’s open, powerful. I really love her. I mean I think she’s kind of amazing.”

Will and Maggie share great chemistry and some tender moments in Stranger Than Fiction which opens tomorrow in theaters.

“When I first meet him he represents to me something abhorrent. He’s this guy from the IRS coming in to audit me and call me out on this protest that I sort of set up. I hate him on some level but I’m also right from the beginning playing with him. I mean he’s like this fun thing to play with because it was so easy you know.”
