LOVERBOY IS A BACON FAMILY AFFAIR
Movie star parents Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are raising their children Sosie and Travis right in the heart of Manhattan amongst the hustle and bustle. Being famous doesn’t stop them from being overprotective just like any other parents. In Loverboy, Kevin directs his wife Kyra whose character deals with an all consuming love for her son, newcomer Dominic Scott Kay, which Kyra says she sometimes can relate to. |
As an actor and a director Kevin has explored bad things happening to children before playing a pedophile in The Woodsman and turning vigilante when gang members harm his children in the film Death Sentence which is slated for 2007. Kevin observes that it might be safer to explore those fears on film than in real life. |
“It’s such an odd thing because you have this baby and this baby needs you utterly and is totally dependent upon you for food, for warmth, for everything. And then basically as they grow up it’s a slow process of squelling that side of you that is all about this and trying to open up your arms and let this child go into the world. I have to say I can really relate to how hard that is in every step of the way. It’s a new level of letting go and how does one manage one with the other. How do you manage those feelings of ‘I have to take care of this child forever, this child is totally vulnerable,’ and then reconcile yourself to ‘he’s in the world, on the subway.’ It’s really hard so I can relate to that.” |
Loverboy is a family affair also featuring Kevin’s son Travis, his daughter Sosie who plays Kyra as a 10 year old, plus an original score by his brother Michael Bacon, also of The Bacon Brothers. Loverboy opens Friday in select cities. |
“I look back and I go there have been some movies involve bad things happening to children and in fact the one I’m about to do in the fall I now realize again has that theme. I suppose if anything the only way I could describe it is just when you have kids you have a lot of fears about them, and about them going off and being in the world and our kids are becoming more and more independent. Sometimes you have to use your work as a way to work out those demons. Some people dream at night to get rid of the crap that’s in our heads during the day that we’re not really able to deal with so I think we act and make movies sometimes to deal with it.” |
