LOSTPROPHETS BREAKING OUT OF NU-METAL TAG
(VIDEO) Lostprophets seek to break out of the Nu Metal tag, which they thought never fit well anyway! |
Lostprophets are set to release Liberation Transmission, their latest album on June 26. They’re looking to separate themselves from the nu-metal classification that some gave them when their last album, Start Something, was released. |
Vocalist Ian Watkins and Lee Gaze said that “Rooftops” and other songs on Liberation Transmission will have no resemblance to the harder stuff some classified as Nu Metal. |
“That we were tied into the whole Linkin Park, Nu Metal thing. Because when we came out, coincidentally, it was around the same time as them and we had Jamie who did keyboards, but he also messed around with decks and stuff like that. But it’s simply because we were into all the more whack stuff like DJ Shadow, or U.N.K.L.E. or James Lavelle (sic) or stuff like that. And we just liked experimenting. We always experimented, and people just lumped us in with that because that was big. And people are still misinformed of our… They call us, ‘Nu Metal.’ We’re in 2006. I know for a fact that term no longer exists.” |
Watkins added that people who use that term are just lazy. |
“And it’s such a lazy term and it doesn’t even exist. There isn’t even any metal in the music. It’s like we all came from hardcore bands or metal, but we’ve always had a punk, DIY mentality. We’ve always done it ourselves. We toured in bands, we sold our own merch, sold our own CDs. It just so happened that at the time we got signed, it was around all that. It’s like we’re still here three albums down the line, and a majority of those bands are no longer around.” |
Lostprophets kick off a tour of the U.K. starting July 3. They’ll be back in North America in August, but no solid tour dates have been booked. |
