LIVING THINGS PROTEST ECONOMY AT SXSW, WILL MARCH ON WALL STREET NEXT

The always politically out spoken Living Things are fresh off turning heads at 2009’s South by Southwest conference and industry showcase and people are still talking about the band protesting the state of our economy by burning dollar bills both on stage and in the streets. The Living Things stormed the stage at Perez Hilton’s “One Night in Austin” concert last Saturday night in Austin, Tx during a performance by Thunderheist. The band was accompanied by six homeless men (including a wounded war veteran) from Austin’s Front Steps Shelter as they proceeded to burn dollar bills to protest “Wall Street’s dirty ways.” Lead singer Lillian Berlin who never shies away from demonstrating his feelings both politically and socially posted his reasoning on youtube saying “Wall Street’s dollar is dirty. Let’s burn that dirty dollar. We are not economists. We don’t have a solution. But through symbolism we can raise awareness together.” |
Artisan News caught up with Lillian Berlin to get his thoughts on having a problem with authority figures. |
“I’ve always had a problem with authority, just down to my teachers at my school. So for me to speak out if I’m not excepting authority figures is very easy for me because if someone is abusing their right of authority it really rubs me the wrong way.” |
Living Things are also organizing a march on Wall Street on “tax day”, April 15, starting with a free concert at 80 Nassau St. in Manhattan. The band is currently touring in support of their latest album “Habeas Corpus.” Originally hailing from St. Louis, MO, Living Things are comprised of three brothers, Lillian, Eve and Bosh Berlin, and it was their mother that gave the brothers their deep sense of being politically conscious and they clearly aren’t afraid to let their true feelings show in their music and on stage. |
