LIVE EARTH IS LARGEST CONCERT EVER
With 8 free concerts around the U.S. the Green Apple Festival held it’s 3rd Annual Festival celebrating ‘Earth Day’ |
Live Earth took place this past Saturday, July 7, and it featured 125 of the biggest bands spanning all continents including Antarctica, and reaching a proported 2 billion people. While audience numbers couldn’t be confirmed, the line-up was one of the best ever featuring Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, and Linkin Park among others. Performances were held in China, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Australia, the U.K. two in the U.S., and one in South Africa. |
Celebrities and musicians who didn’t even perform were even there lending their support. American Idol judge and famed studio musician and producer Randy Jackson was there and he talked about “Going Green,” the catchphrase for being more environmentally conscious. |
“A lot of American schools are trying to teach kids how to be very greenhouse effective kids. We’re doing a lot of consumption of energy, we’re consuming water better now. I check everyone in the house as they leave the water running, which is a big thing in my house, which also drives me crazy and also is bad for the planet. We’ve become a very good recycling family as well. It’s more the bath thing — that’s where I was going with the water. I didn’t want to say the bath. You put the bath water on and it’s running and you go, ‘Who is in the bath? What’s going on? There’s nobody in the bath! What are you [doing]?! Yeah, yeah, yeah, that happens a lot.” |
Dave Matthews Band also shared why the concert is important. |
“What this whole event is about is getting governments to stand up, becuase really this is a great, this is a wonderful thing that we all get together at the same time and shout, but truly governments hold the…they make the laws so they really can make the changes, and go further than just to say, ‘Yeah it would be really great to be really good. The pressure comes from people to do what they can, really raising our voices in who we vote for and then really asking people to put their money where their mouth is and start saying, ‘You know it may be iconvenient for a short period, but we really have to act on what we say we want.’ And it’s up to the governments because they truly have the powers.” |
Live Earth was broadcast as a three hour special on NBC-TV, the shows are running either in full or in edited version on cable channels MSNBC and Bravo, and complete performance show clips are available at msn.com. |
