LITTLE STEVEN INSIGHT INTO SOPRANOS WHACK
The Sopranos are back, and the much anticipated episode is set to crash in on HBO on its traditional night, Sunday night, March 12. From those who have reviewed the pilot and vowed to secrecy, there is a shocking event at the end of episode 1 of the new season, and it’s rumored that a cast member will be killed off. |
While we can’t confirm that a character will be “whacked,” the show has historically depicted some horrible death scenes from the dismembering of Ralphie to the killing of the character “Adriana,” played by Drea D’Matteo, who was the wife of mob middle-man “Chris” on the show. Tony Soprano’s right-hand man, Silvio Dante, carried out the hit, and Little Steven Van Zandt, who portrays Dante on the show, talked ahout that scene’s difficulty. |
“It was one of the hardest things I’ll ever do. Even if I act forever, which…who knows? If I do a hundred movies it’ll be one of the hardest things I ever do. It was just a very difficult scene first of all, but you know, violence…it looks easy on the screen, but it’s not easy to do. And you know, you’ve got to put your hands on a girl like that and be violent with a girl. It’s extremely difficult.” |
Van Zandt, who in real life is a key member of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street band, said the violence is only one aspect of killing off a cast member and he said it’s always a sad occasion. |
“And so you’ve got that going on, but then you’ve also got a little bit of reality which is you’re going to lose a great cast member and a good friend and we’re very close on the show. Same thing back with Vinny Pastore and everybody else we’ve lost through the years. You feel bad. You feel like it’s a loss in the family.” |
The Sopranos have filmed the last twenty episodes to span over two years, and many are hailing this season as the best ever. Van Zandt not only is a member of the E-Street band he also hosts the radio program, Underground Garage. |
