LIL WAYNE LOOKS FOR FIRST PLATINUM DEBUT OF 2008
Lil’ Wayne is looking to become the first artist to release an album and have it go platinum in it’s first week since 50 Cent’s The Massacre in 2005. |
Lil’ Wayne’s just released album Tha Carter III is looking to become the first platinum debut album of 2008. Platinum is awarded to albums with sales of over one million copies as certified by the Recording Industry Association of America. In fact, even Kanye West’s smash Graduation fell 50,000 copies short of platinum in its debut week. The last album to go platinum upon its debut was 50 Cent’s The Massacre back in 2005. |
Lil Wayne, who has become one of the biggest artists in the world, said that he has to be wary of how he carries himself. |
“Really, it’s very important because you’ve got to notice that you’re being scene. I can walk outside with my man, and five out of a group of ten maybe five out of ten are going to look at me in a different way than they’re going to look at my man. I’ve got to take that into consideration.” |
While it’s not known whether the album has enough juice to top the platinum mark, it got off to a torrid start selling approximately 430,000 copies in one day. His new single “Lollipop” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was his first Top 10 single as a solo artist. |
