LEWIS BLACK IMPRESSES PARENTS WITH ROLE
Lewis Black took on the airport public relations manager in Unaccompanied Minors to impress his parents. |
Unaccompanied Minors is about six kids from separate families of divorce who are snowbound in an airport during the holiday season en route to visit their designated Christmas parent. Lewis Black plays the grouchy Passenger Relations Manager who has to wrangle in the stranded kiddies. |
The political comedian admits he took the role to impress his parents and show them he could handle a real job. |
“Some job I would never have because I don’t have those organizational skills which is another reason I take parts like this. I like my mother and father to see me in a tie. It lets them live out the fantasy, ‘what if Lewis really got a job and was really in charge of stuff. Wouldn’t it be great? He’d wear a suit every day.’ I’ve had one job in my life in an office and that was the end of it.” |
Lewis’s character is divorced and is ultimately anti-family. The unaccompanied minors form a bond in the airport that is as strong as family ties. Lewis says families can happen in different ways, and not just the traditional way. |
“There’s a group in America that likes to believe that the American family is a mother, a father, children, the husband and a wife and all of that. For a good chunk of America that’s not the case. And those families that it’s not the case it can be just as healthy.” |
Lewis got to vent his frustrations at the kids by chasing them around the airport. Wilmer Valderamma also stars as airport security put in charge of the kids to make sure the night is as silent as possible. Unaccompanied Minors opens Friday in theaters. |
