Houston-based R&B singer LeToya Luckett released her solo debut album, LeToya, on Tuesday, July 25th. The release of the album culminates a long road back for the singer who left Destiny’s Child in 1999. Luckett briefly formed a group with fellow Destiny’s Child alum, LeTavia Roberson, but their group Anjel never took off. |
Luckett recently explained that her family helped her to stay focused when she contemplated giving it all up. She said, |
“The way I was raised my family always told me to keep my head up. And at the time when things were going the way they were going as you know, they told me to dust myself off and keep moving. And at that time I considered you know may be doing some background stuff or may be doing some A&R, some behind the scenes stuff. But something told me, ‘Hey go out there and get it,’ and that’s why I continued to press on. And I let God take a front seat in my career and he has definitely showed up and showed out.” |
LeToya was produced by Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch, Jazze Pha, and Brian Michael Cox. The album features guest appearances by Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and Bun B. |
The album’s lead single, “Torn,” peaked at Number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. |
The singer, who will be touring with Mary J. Blige and Jaheim this summer, recently released a new single and video, “She Don’t.” |
