LENA OLIN KNOWS SELFLESSNESS OF MOTHERHOOD

As a mother of two children, Lena Olin understood the fierceness of protecting her child in Awake.

Awake is the thriller that uses the phenomena of anesthetic awareness to tell the story of Hayden Christensen as a heart transplant patient who though paralyzed by drugs can see, hear, and most horrifically feel his operation but can’t move or scream.

Swedish actress Lena Olin who stars as Hayden’s mother in the film makes the ultimate sacrifice and gives him the heart he desperately needs. Lena who is a mom in real life understands this selfless act.

“I think you always borrow from life. I am a mom, I know what it is. I think it may be hard to portray a mother unless you’ve been there. You don’t have to go everywhere as an actor to be able to portray something but it really helps a lot to have been through that. In this particular case with this mother who becomes a tiger because her child is threatened. That’s something that any mother can relate to, that feeling of there’s nothing that would stop me, nothing.”

Lena enjoyed working with Hayden says oddly enough her kids were not big Star Wars fans. <

“One is too old and one is too young. My son is 21. He was always into other movies; he’s a movie freak. And my daughter hasn’t watched; she’s just 12, she’s too young. I think they’re a little scary for her too. She doesn’t like anyone in disguise like with a mask and there was a Star Wars feast at one time when we were at one of these theme parks and there were Star Wars characters everywhere which ruined our whole day because she was just in panic.”

Speaking of costumes, Lena kept only one item of clothing from all her roles to date, her sexy bowler hat from The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Awake which also stars Terrence Howard and Jessica Alba is currently playing in theaters.
