LAURENCE FISHBURNE IS SOUS CHEF SAGE

Laurence Fishburne stars in Bobby playing the sous chef at the Ambassador Hotel, the number two man in the kitchen who tells busboy Freddy Rodriguez how to navigate in the white man’s world.

Laurence says racial climate in this country hasn’t changed that much since 1968, the year in which Bobby takes place. He believes Robert Kennedy was a leader who believed in change for the better.

“You know I’ve been around for a while. I’m a middle-aged man. I’ve lived and I’ve seen and I’ve done and I’ve made my peace with life and with my disappointments with life. I try to impart a little wisdom to some of the younger fellas that are working in the kitchen.”

“It was a very fertile time I think for change in our country. And we also had a kind of leadership at the forefront of all these changes that made things seem very possible. By that I mean it made change and change for the positive. It seemed very, very possible. It was very much within the grasp of our country and within our power to really change our country.”
