In her new series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman Laura Kightlinger created the part of the best friend played by former Nanny star Nicholle Tom. Doing the circuit of day parts, Laura had a guest spot on The Nanny and was relegated to sharing a dressing room with the show’s boisterous star, Fran Drescher. |
Laura is still very tight with her high school friends who keep her sane in an insane show business. |
“I had one day working on The Nanny. I was doing a Lorena Bobbitt thing and they were on the jury, Fran Drescher and her friend. I went into the dressing room which was part of Fran Drescher’s dressing room and it was huge. I had my bag and a couple of books and stuff and as I walked in I knocked things off the closet hook. Off the racks of clothes I had knocked down a couple of things and she just looked up from putting on her stockings and said, ‘take it easy.’ I thought, ‘oh great this is gonna be a great day.’”rn |

“I still talk to her all the time. She lives in upstate New York with her husband and two kids. It’s sad we really don’t have much in common anymore but we still talk. The woman in this is Nicholle Tom who plays my friend. She’s very funny. She reminds me of my friend from high school. She’s kind of vulnerable, really upbeat and always looks on the bright side even beyond reason looks on the bright side and thinks things are great when clearly they’re not.” |
