LAURA DERN DOG INSPIRED DECISION TO MAKE FILM
Laura Dern stars in Year of The Dog as Molly Shannon’s sister-in-law who tries to help her rebuild her life when her beloved pooch dies. |
Laura, an avid animal activist for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and dog lover herself had a very personal connection to the story. |
“I lost my dog probably four days before I read the script and so I was weeping by the end of this script. I was like, ‘Oh my God I just lost my dog, I have to do this movie. How can I not do this movie?’” |
Laura who is married to musician Ben Harper and a new mom in real life related to her character’s neurosis when it comes to raising children. |
“I think what makes it the most funny particularly because I’m also a new mom, that there is a part of it that is just plain being a new parent that I think a lot of people can relate to. It’s just taking it to such a whack level. But it is so easy to become deeply terrified and paranoid as a parent of the world and everything that can happen to your kids. That’s what makes it funny that at it’s core it’s something that is relatable.” |
Laura’s next project is Tenderness co-starring Russell Crowe as a cop investigating a teenage serial killer. Year of The Dog is currently playing in theaters. |
