LAURA DERN DOG INSPIRED DECISION TO MAKE FILM

Laura Dern stars in Year of The Dog as Molly Shannon’s sister-in-law who tries to help her rebuild her life when her beloved pooch dies.

Laura, an avid animal activist for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and dog lover herself had a very personal connection to the story.

“I lost my dog probably four days before I read the script and so I was weeping by the end of this script. I was like, ‘Oh my God I just lost my dog, I have to do this movie. How can I not do this movie?’”

Laura who is married to musician Ben Harper and a new mom in real life related to her character’s neurosis when it comes to raising children.

“I think what makes it the most funny particularly because I’m also a new mom, that there is a part of it that is just plain being a new parent that I think a lot of people can relate to. It’s just taking it to such a whack level. But it is so easy to become deeply terrified and paranoid as a parent of the world and everything that can happen to your kids. That’s what makes it funny that at it’s core it’s something that is relatable.”

Laura’s next project is Tenderness co-starring Russell Crowe as a cop investigating a teenage serial killer. Year of The Dog is currently playing in theaters.
