LATIFAH AND WALKEN WEIGH IN ON TRAVOLTA AS A WOMAN

Christopher Walken and Queen Latifah had different opinions of John Travolta as a woman.

Most everyone in the cast of Hairspray got carried away with the illusion of John Travolta as the matronly mother Edna Turnblad except for the actor who played his husband, Wilbur, Christopher Walken.

Christopher says he saw right through the 300 pound fat suit, make-up and high heels into the man he knows and loves.

“Then one day he put the outfit on and everybody saw that. It was great, it was funny and almost a little stunning really. But that passed very quickly and then for me anyway it just was John again. I never looked at him like Edna. It was always John. I like John a lot and I get along very well with him so I think that just carried over into Wilbur and Edna.”

On the other hand Queen Latifah was quite taken with Travolta’s ample body.

“No one could really imagine how funny it is to watch John Travolta as Edna Turnblad especially in that big, blonde, beautiful scene. I mean you’re seeing it on the screen but I’m right there with that booty going and he’s taking these little steps and the butt is like rockin’ with him. I mean he was Edna Turnblad. I got used to seeing him as this girl, this big ole woman with this curvaceous body that really just moved and he was able to move like it was his. It was cool.”

Travolta even fooled 10 of his closest friends dressed as the buxom broad who didn’t recognize him in his screen test as Edna.
