KT TUNSTALL GIVES FANTASTIC STUDIO EFFORT
KT Tunstall, one of the UK’s finest exports, talked about recording her new album, and what she says about it may surprise you. |
KT Tunstall visited New York City to play for her fans at Roseland Ballroom on Wednesday night in support of her latest effort Drastic Fantastic. KT had breakthrough success with Eye To The Telescope, and she is trying to duplicate it with her sophomore effort. |
KT talked about making the new record. |
“I mean the biggest obstacle was stopping in terms of getting Drastic Fantastic going because I really felt there was still life in touring the first album, and there still is now. That record was released a year later here in the [United] States than in the U.K., so it kind of follows that I could have probably carried on for another year with that record. In the [United] States it really took off, and I didn’t expect that at all. I’m from the U.K. and that’s where the fans who got this thing going are from, and I felt a lot of pressure to just get on with it and make another record. Also you can’t tour, and tour, and tour the same stuff. It drives you crazy, and I think creatively it’s a dodgy move to keep repeating yourself.” |
She also admitted she found the studio a bit constraining. |
“I’m still very un accustomed to working in the studio. I don’t particularly like it…yet. I find that I’m very impatient and I find it frustrating, and I find it way too analytical. My acoustic record I loved because we recorded an album in a day. You sit and you play the songs, you press record, and you have an album at the end of the day. That’s how I always recorded songs when I was growing up as a musician, and this whole kind of sitting down and the math and science of it — and I can hear that it makes a great sound — but I can’t say that I enjoy the process that much.” |
KT Tunstall is playing in Toronto on Thanksgiving, where they don’t celebrate the American holiday, and neither does she. The Scottish pop/rock star is headed to play the Nobel Peace Prize concert early next month, and we will have KT’s take on the event later in the week. |
