Rapper KRS-One is relaunching his Stop The Violence Movement. The rapper initially launched the movement in 1988. In 1989, KRS-One released the song, “Self Destruction,” which featured Stetsasonic, D-Nice, Doug E. Fresh, Ms. Melody, Just Ice, Heavy D, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Just-Ice, Heavy D, and Public Enemy. |
KRS-One told Allhiphop.com, “The Stop The Violence Movement will be 20 years old in 2009 and what have we learned? The idea is to get started now in 2007, if I want everyone to at least have heard of what Hip-Hop is doing on its own to curb violence and to answer some of the critique that we have been getting. It would be at least a year campaign, all of 2008 and lead up to the 2009 anniversary.” |
“Temple of Hip Hop is a hip hop preservation society. We’re not a place, we’re more of a society of people who believe basically what Busy Bee was bringing up. The original intention of hip hop has to be preserved; Peace, love, unity and having fun, Afrika Bambaataa.” |
The rapper has gotten the ball rolling by having several artists record PSAs and testimonials. So far Lil’ Wayne, Ludacris, Pastor Troy, Chingy, Rick Ross, Cassidy, Ludacris, Jalil of Whodini, Hakim of Channel Live and Busta Rhymes have all recorded spots. |
In related news, KRS-One is still heavily involved with the Temple Of Hip Hop. He explained, |
