KORN BRINGS KORNFIELDS TO NEW YORK CITY
KoRn brought their Kornfields to New York City and the band discussed their just released untitled album, free tickets, and korntastic fuel. |
Korn celebrated the release of their brand new untitled album on Tuesday, July 31, with a press conference in the Kornfields in Times Square in New York City. The location was a sliver of a concrete island in front of the Armed Forces recruiting station, and it was adorned with corn stalks, antique farm tools, and bales of hay. The rural scene framed by an urban backdrop provided a unique setting for Korn to greet fans and media alike, and the setting was revealing about their plans for their tour. |
Following the press conference the band signed copies of the album at in-store at J&R Music and performed a free show at the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. Guitarist James Munky Shaffer talked about the band/s choice for an untitled album. |
“It’s our decision to title a record or not title it, and we decided not to title it. It’s our eighth studio album. We had the freedom to experiment and try different stuff musically on this album. We wrote with some amazing musicians. It’s very musical. It’s very atmospheric. We wrote with an amazing drummer named Terry Bozzio, a keyboard player named Zack Baird. It’s just a deeper level that you haven’t heard before.” |
Korn is currently on the Family Values tour which the band founded in the ’90s and has since been revived. Vocalist Jonathan Davis spoke to us after the conference to talk about giving out free tickets to servicemen on leave from the war in Iraq. |
“Seeing those guys happy. Period. They’re seeing hell basically, and they’re doing their active duty. During their tours in Iraq they’re seeing horrible things and going through some crazy stuff so to be able to entertain ’em and forget about that for a little while and just come out and have a good time is worth it.” |
One of the revolutionary ideas the band put forth was their formula for biodiesel fuel called Korntastic. The recepe can be found online, and Davis talked about the concept. |
“We’re putting our recepe up for our own fuel, our own style biodiesel. We wanna start putting it out there. We want to have a little fun with it, with the Kornfields and stuff up there. We know biodiesel isn’t all made by corn, but with us being Korn, we’ve got an album coming out so we decided we’d just come out and have a little fun with it and do something for our envoronment.” |
The organization SMART, Sustainable Minded Artists Recording Touring, was behind the biodiesel fuel recepe, and fans can check it out at korntastic.com. Meanwhile, the Family Values tour resumes August 3 in Darien Lake, in upstate New York. Dates are currently scheduled through September 2 in Irvine, California. |
