KIRSTEN DUNST ENROLLS IN VERSAILLES HIGH FOR MARIE…
(VIDEO) Marie Antoinette star Kirsten Dunst compares the French Queen’s problems at Versailles to high school gossip. |
During 18th century Versailles the friendship between Austria and France was cemented by the marriage of Marie Antoinette to Louis XVI. Kirsten Dunst stars as the teenage bride who had more shoes than Imelda Marcos and ate decadent pastries to her hearts delight much to the disparagement surrounding her behavior. Kirsten says she relates the idle gossip in the film to her high school days. |
“All those feelings, those feelings of high school because that’s such an isolated world where you think that’s the most important thing and that’s the only thing. That the gossiping can ruin your life when you’re in high school so all those feelings are in the movie and are totally relatable to now.” |
Marie Antoinette marks Kirsten Dunst’s reunion with director Sofia Coppola since The Virgin Suicides. |
“What a more amazing gift. It’s a dream to play somebody like that and work with Sofia. She’s really the only director who does movies about females and their introspective lives and trying to figure out what they want and become a woman. There’s not many directors that are telling stories like that.” |
Marie Antoniette was shot completely on location in Versailles which Kirsten says gave her the authenticity she needed to portray the infamous French Queen. |
“It was unbelievable because Versailles that was a character in itself and to be able to shoot where they really got married, where she really performed on her little stage in her mini opera house. To be in those places and you’d touch the fabric and thought, ‘I wonder if they looked out this window or touched this fabric.’”rn |
Also while in Versailles Kirsten tried to get a sense of Marie Antoinette’s scent from the perfume she was known to wear. The film opens Friday in theaters. rn |
