KILLSWITCH ENGAGE TO DEBUT IN TOP 10?
Many experts are predicting that Killswitch Engage’s new album will debut in the Top 10 upon its release, and that may have something to do with their appeal to both old metal and new metal fans. The band expanded its fanbase by playing the Taste Of Chaos tour a few years back, and have been accepted into the indie/alternative crowd. |
We asked Killswitch Engage about bridging the musical generation gap between older metal fans and kids just discovering heavy music through their music. |
[Joel Strotzel] “I don’t know. I guess in some ways.” [Justin Foley] “I think there are other bands that do it too, but I guess we’d have to be one since we were on that Taste Of Chaos tour with Underoath. So, maybe that’s a part of it. Imagine the first impression of Adam and the metal kids, I wonder what they’d think. [Stroetzel] “Everybody has the attitude that metal is music. It’s for everybody. You don’t have to wear certain clothes or be a certain way to get into it. I know a lot of punk rock kids say, ‘Oh, I’m not going to listen to those guys, they’re too metal for me.’ Who cares? It’s all music. None of us take it too seriously. We’re just in it to have a good time. Why else would you want to do it?” |
Killswitch Engage recently played a Myspace “secret” show in Los Angeles and they’ve set up in-stores at certain points along the tour route. Check out killswitchengage.com for more details. Meanwhile the band will be on the road through November 20 in Providence, Rhode Island. |
