KID ROCK INDUCTS LYNYRD SKYNYRD INTO ROCK HALL
Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the bands being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame along with the Sex Pistols, Blondie, and Black Sabbath among others on Monday night, March 13. Some say the band’s entrance is long overdue, and the band has had to face a debilitating plane crash, and they overcame the death of most of the classic line-up of the band. |
Skynyrd is being inducted into the hall by Kid Rock, who is sure to talk about the band’s illustrious and tragic history. Johnny Van Zant, with guitarist Rickey Medlocke chiming in, said he doesn’t like looking at the negative about the band. |
“I don’t like dwelling on the bad stuff of Lynyrd Skynyrd. There’s been a bunch of great stuff in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lynyrd Skynyrd has been through a hard time, man, but ytou know what? There’s been a lot more serious things. When you have a kid sick, the trade towers getting bombed, when you look at things like that and what other people might go through, Lynyrd Skynyrd, yeah, its had some bad things, but it’s had a lot of great things. We have to look at the positive.” |
There is only two classic members of the Skynyrd line-up left, and Van Zant and Medlocke were asked if they think about deceased members when they perform. |
[Van Zant]”Yeah, sure. Sure.” [Medlocke] “Well it is Street Survivors, that’s what it comes down to because that’s the way we were raised.” [Van Zant] …and you know what? Everybody loses people. Skynyrd is just a big family. The only difference is that this is in the public eye. You take a poll of ten families, you’re going to find a lot of stuff there over a period of their lifetime in their family history that’s went bad in their lives. So, we dont look at it as a pity party man, we try to kick some ass and keep going.” |
Lynyrd Skynyrd is a working band, but only Gary Rossington and Billy Powell remain there from the classic line-up. Medlocke was there at the beginning of the band, but he left before the band’s success to play with several bands including Blackfoot, before returning to the fold. |
