Kevin Costner learns to be a criminal in Mr. Brooks.

Kevin Costner is causing quite a stir playing a serial killer on screen in Mr. Brooks where his character is man of the year publicly but something very sinister privately.

Kevin says he read up on serial killers but most of his research was obtained from real life.

“Unfortunately I did and I didn’t have to go very far to find them. Meaning we’ve all bore witness to these guys and women in our life sadly. They’re right on our fingertips. We know too much about them.”

In the film Mr. Brooks breaks into his victims’ homes with special gadgets. Costner essentially had to learn to become a criminal by knowing exactly how they worked.

“Yeah well that’s hard and it’s kind of creepy too because you think, ‘ooh I’m not so safe as I thought.’ That stuff was real germane to the movie and so we applied it. I had to get the dead bolt off but then the chain was an extra thing. It didn’t hold me back for too long.”

Mr. Brooks which also stars Marg Helgenberger and Dane Cook is currently playing in theaters.
