KELLY PRESTON QUESTIONS VENGEANCE

How far would you go to protect your children? That is the question Kelly Preston asked herself when she took on the role of Kevin Bacon’s wife whose son is killed by a gang member begetting the vengeance of Bacon’s character in Death Sentence.

Kelly said she thought long and hard before deciding to take the part.

“Where it really has you ask a lot of questions of yourself, not only how far would you go to protect your family but if you decide to take matters into your own hands or snap like my husband in this movie Kevin Bacon does, there are very severe consequences. And it grapples with a lot of issues like violence begetting more violence, an eye for an eye makes the world blind and it really makes you think.”

As the mother of Ella Bleu and Jett with husband John Travolta, Kelly wondered if she could go as far as murder to avenge a child’s death.

“Well for me if it was in the situation, if it was at the moment then absolutely I would do anything to protect my family but why this is so different is that this is several days later and the justice system has failed. And he then does this or snaps and makes this decision and at that point I wouldn’t. I know that I wouldn’t do that. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t think about it, and that it wouldn’t just permeate every pore of my being. But I wouldn’t do that.”

Kelly’s next film Old Dogs is much lighter fare working with her husband and daughter Ella in her debut role.
