KEANE SINGER IN REHAB, BAND TALKS PITFALLS
Keane singer Tom Chaplin recently came clean to fans on the band’s webpage saying that he has to enter into a rehab facility. The band and it spokespeople originally cited “exhaustion” as the reason that the band had to postpone a slew of U.S. dates. Chaplin apologized and said that this was the only way for him to deal with some of the issues he’s experiencing. |
In a recent interview Chaplin, flanked by his Keane bandmates, said he’d gotten some advice that they hadn’t quite taken. |
“The very first support tour we did — or big support tour — was with Travis and it was just a… we had a fantastic time and learned a lot from those guys and became good friends with them and Fran Healy said to us, ‘One thing you’ve got to make sure you do is really enjoy it and savor every moment of it,’ but of course we didn’t do that at all. We kind of went madly threw it and did everything we possibly could and never really, kind of, stood back and took the chance to really kind of enjoy it as a group of people who grew up togther and had this dream. I think that was quite destructive for us acutally, and that’s an elment that’s crept into one or two of the songs on the new record — that feeling of never taking stock and enjoying things and communicating that with each other.” |
Chaplin admitted that with the band’s success, he’s dealt with the inability to stop and smell the roses in a myriad of ways. |
“You just stop talking to each other, you bottle things up, and you just start to enjoy things in kind of perverse ways — or not. I think that’s the way it kind of manifested itself.” |
Keane has rescheduled both the postponed Boston and New York City dates, and more will be announced shortly. Head to the band’s website, Keane.co.uk for all the latest info on the rescheduled tour. |
