Jurassic 5 have released their new album, ‘Feedback’ and the band currently has a hit single on their hand, ‘Work it Out Now’ which features appearances by The Dave Matthews Band. |
Dakir aka Soup, of J5, stopped by to talk about how a few years off from the bands last release, ‘Power in Numbers’ really did the band some good and the recording and writing sessions for ‘Feedback’ couldn’t have gone any smoother. |
“It was a good experience actually from being back after four years. I figure after three or four years of not having a record out it should go smooth because it was enough time to knock out any kinks we had within that time, so it went smooth.” |
So what about the song writing on ‘Feedback’ we also asked Soup if he felt the songwriting left off where ‘Feedback’ ended or if this is a whole new direction for the band. |
“It’s a whole other feel, but the song writing process is the same. The thing about this particular album is we had a chance to go into the studio in Seattle and work with Dave Matthews. Kind of see how he does his thing and he could see how we do our thing. So that was cool. But basically our songwriting process is the same, it’s all over the place.” |
And it’s Dave Matthews who does a guest vocal appearance on the hit single ‘Work it Out Now’ and along with his band adds a welcome touch to J5’s impressive lyrics and vocal harmonizing. We also asked Soup how this collaboration with Dave Matthews has been for Jurassic 5. |
“Yeah we toured with him. Vote for Change was doing different legs in different cities and he asked us if we wanted to be a part of it. So we opened up for him and then when it was time to do our album, we reached out to him because we thought that we have a beat that he would sound good on. So we were like ‘Look Dave, we got this and we’re working on our new record do you think maybe you can come in and do something on it?’ and he was like ‘Yeah!’ and it just snow balled into ‘Work it Out Now.” |
Jurassic 5 are currently on tour in support of ‘Feedback.’ The band has also been announced to play Vegoose, in Las Vegas on Halloween weekend. Next up for Jurassic 5’s will be a tour of Europe beginning and ending. |
