JUNKIE XL RELEASES GUITAR DRIVEN ELECTRONIC ALBUM

Junkie XL, aka Tom Holkenborg, has released his fourth studio album, ‘Today’ and this release finds Tom lyrically more personal, musically more cohesive and focused than any other previous Junkie XL disc. Although the multi instrumentalist writes music on many different instruments, Junkie XL talked about how writing a guitar driven album has made it a more personal experience in the studio.

Junkie XL is easliy one of the busiest musicians in Hollywood constantly composing songs for video games, soundtracks for movies, remixing material for other artsists or producing his own records. So how does Holkenborg, who relocated for Holland to Los Angeles a few years ago, keep his busy career balanced. Well he admitted keeping busy is keeping him fresh and inspired.

“I write music from many different points of view, sometimes I start with a sample, sometimes I start with melody lines I hear in my head, vocal lines, rhythm patterns. For this album though, because I wanted to make a more personal album, I tried to write songs on an instrument that I was really close to and closely attached to and the guitar is definitely the instrument that I have the closest connection to. That’s why the songs are guitar heavy and driven by guitar melodies.”

Tom Holkenborg is currently working on the upcoming film Dead Or Alive that’s based on the video game of the same name. Junkie XL has recently completed remixing the new Coldplay single “Talk”. Coldplay has solicited very few remixes, and Tom was honored that Coldplay came to Junkie XL for this remix project. Junkie XL has also announced a run of tour dates in support of ‘Today’ which starts July 8th in Madrid, Spain and extending until September 3rd in Toronto, Canada.

“My life is great. I find myself very blessed. On one hand I’m an artist doing my own stuff and with all the touring and second I produce and remix other artists and three I work with commercials and video games and movies. The combination and the balance between all three keeps my life musically very interesting and inspiring and it also keeps you fresh.”
