JULIE DELPY DEALS WITH ROMANTIC DIFFERENCES
Writer, director Julie Delpy explores relationships when challenged in her new film. |
When it comes to new relationships men and women deal with former significant others very differently which actor, director Julie Delpy writes about in 2 Days In Paris. |
Taking a sojourn with her boyfriend in the film played by Adam Goldberg, who was once romantically involved with Julie in real life, to her hometown of Paris, he meets her former flames whether he likes it or not. Julie says women are much cooler about their boyfriends’ exes than the other way around. |
“I think women don’t mind. I don’t mind that my boyfriend had another girlfriend. I want him to tell me stories actually. I kind of like the idea. I don’t mind it at all. I’m kind of more intrigued, girls are more intrigued. Guys they don’t want to hear about it. They don’t want to know that there was other men. Men don’t like to know that there’s been someone else at that place, that conquered that property of them, you know. But it’s actually more of a male mentality than an American mentality. I think it’s just a more manly mentality that really feeling the woman is the man’s property.” |
Another obstacle to conquer in a relationship is meeting the parents especially when they come from an entirely different culture. Julie has the ideal situation with her current companion, movie composer Marc Streitenfeld. |
“Well you know the best thing for that my situation which is that I live in Los Angeles and my boyfriend lives in Los Angeles and his family is in Germany and my family is in France. So that’s how we handle it. No I love my family it’s true when you get involved with someone you also get involved with their family you know in some ways depending on the family. But what’s true about French culture is when you’re involved with a French person it’s like being involved with Italians. France is Latin there’s no doubt about it. It’s like a Latin country. And you get involved with the family for sure.” |
French and American families differ at mealtime. In a very funny scene in the film Julie’s real life dad Albert Delpy cooks up a French delicacy, braised rabbit offering Adam the bunny’s head. |
