Julia Roberts is the voice of Charlotte the spider in Charlotte’s Web, based on the best-selling children’s book. Charlotte is an outsider who becomes an unlikely friend to Wilbur the pig who knows his end is drawing near as the holiday meal. |
Julia who recited her lines to a little pig on the cover of National Geographic before the film had it’s illustrations to draw upon talks about how Wilbur and Charlotte meet. |
“Well she’s really the quintessential outsider in this barn, in this community of farm life and then Wilbur comes along, this little pig and friend to all and really not only brings her into the barn so to speak, into everyone’s lives more but they raise the quality of each other’s lives. And she literally saves his life of course as we all know and I think he gives her such a great purpose to her life that she just never would’ve had.” |
Julia says the concepts of compassion, friendship and understanding are all themes in the beloved children’s story which are also wonderful qualities to emulate. |
“Those are the kinds of things that never diminish in our lives; that we can never do without, that we never stop striving for. And I think that’s how it sort of carries on and on and on. And those are the things that we want to instill in our children and so we keep telling them these stories.” |
Dakota Fanning plays the human Fern who talks to the animals. Also providing voices to the animals are Oprah Winfrey as Gussy the goose, John Cleese as Samuel the sheep, and Steve Buscemi as the barn’s rat Templeton. |
