In Poseidon Josh Lucas is partying up a storm on a luxury liner New Years Eve until all hell breaks loose when a rogue wave comes crashing into the ship. Josh says dealing with the special effects of the ship’s demise became very claustrophobic.

Water ballet is more like it with all the swimming the actors had to do. The disaster epic also features Kurt Russell, Richard Dreyfuss, and Phantom of the Opera star Emmy Rossum trying to escape the doomed Poseidon.rn

“They created these sets that are literally these large rooms, large sections of the ship mostly upside down that have been built on hydraulic devices that are on tanks. And the tanks are 10, 20, 30 feet in the air some of them hold tens of millions of gallons of water. The devices can move and collapse in a similar way that a ship is collapsing. You’re inside these situations where it is actually collapsing around you and the walls literally are imploding and the fires are being blown at you and there are physical elements to it. The fact of the matter is you are dancing basically on top of a roof and a roof is not designed to be walked on. The ship is getting more claustrophobic and more painful to deal with as you’re moving through these sections. There’s sort of a wild ballet to this movie in that sense.”
