JOSEPH IS WILD ABOUT MARY

Oscar Isaac portrays Joseph in The Nativity Story, a man who has to make the ultimate sacrifice for the woman he loves when he discovers she is with child, only it’s not his.

Oscar who describes his upbringing as very Christian says telling the story of Joseph and Mary’s Immaculate Conception and their love for each other gave him pause to think about his own religious beliefs.

“The key thing about Joseph is that he’s a man that’s completely in love; completely in love with Mary from the get-go. How do you take this responsibility? It’s not just because he’s a good man and pious. It’s because he’s completely in love with this woman. That’s why everything is so difficult for him when she comes back and says I’m pregnant. It’s not like he’s like forget it. I think that he is a righteous man and he does seek honor is very important to him and a responsibility but above all he’s just in love with her.”

“It makes you rethink these things, the stories I’ve known all my life and all of a sudden to dive into them. It makes you kind of connect with that other thing, spirituality, faith, yeah.”
